Institute’s Kyoto Activity Print E-mail

The Institute for Environment and Energy Conservation (IEEC) has built palpable positive experience in development, support and implementation of projects based on mechanisms offered by the Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and involving trade of Emission Reduction Units (ERUs) and Assigned Amount Units (AAUs) in the carbon market.

IEEC offers the comprehensive range of consultancy services based on the Kyoto mechanisms.  These include:

  • identification of projects and development of project idea notes (PINs);
  • development of project design documents (PDDs);
  • coordination and assistance in obtaining project determination, Letters of Endorsement, Letters of Approval, as well as in project registration;
  • project monitoring and development of annual monitoring reports;
  • support of project verification process;
  • support of ERU and AAU trading in carbon markets.

IEEC Achievements in Joint Implementation Mechanism

  • The Institute has been the first organisation in a Kyoto Annex 1 country to register a JI Track 1* project.
  • The Institute has developed a number of pioneer JI methodologies, previously used nowhere in the world (for the JI projects UA1000022, Revamping and Modernization of the Alchevsk Steel Mill, and UA1000130, Installation of a New Waste Heat Recovery System in Alchevsk Coke Plant, Ukraine).
  • The Institute also has developed most large-scale projects not only in Ukraine, but also in the world, such as "Revamping of sintering and blast-furnace production at OJSC "Alchevsk Iron ans Steel Works" and "Revamping of sintering and blast-furnace production at "Dniprovsky Integrated Iron and Steel Works named after Dzerzhinsky".
  • The Institute has the Ukraine’s largest portfolio of major projects, both for the total investment and for the expected emission reductions.

IEEC Achievements in Green Investment Scheme (GIS)

IEEC has a substantial experience in developing projects using Kyoto emission trading mechanism (so called the Green Investment Scheme (GIS)).

The GIS projects proposed for Ukraine have a pilot nature; their success will have positive impact on economic, environmental, and social milieu.

All of the said projects promote state-of-the-art technologies, being instrumental for innovative development of the Ukrainian energy sector and assurance of the envirinmental safty and the nation’s secure energy service.

* Track 1 mechanism is based on the national project implementation procedures
