Project summary: 

The project envisages the high-quality blast furnace coke production by the dry quenching method and utilization of waste steel gases for electricity generation.

The dry coke production will be executed due to the implementation of Coke Dry Quenching facility – the system of steam production with the help of burning coke in the special inert environment. As a result of CDQ waste heat will be utilized as steam of high temperature parameters and pressure, it’ll give the possibility to produce own pollution-free energy.

 

Technical aspects of the project

Project activity includes the installation of:

  • CDQ up to 70 tons of dry coke per hour;
  • steam boiler, which uses coke oven and blast furnace gases as a fuel up to 75 tons of steam per hour capacity;
  • electricity generator with the capacity of   9,13 Mw.

The project became the first one of a kind in Ukraine. As a result, the successful project implementation will have a considerable demonstrative influence in our country in general. Besides the integral estimate methodology of CDQ influences on the GHG emission reductions, which includes the calculations of the coke quality effect on СО2 emissions. The project also have a considerable positive environmental and social effects for Alchevsk city and its region in general.

Emission reductions of СО2

Due to the project implementation the GHG emission reductions are achieved in the way of coke quality increase and reduction of coke consumption at blast-furnace production, utilization of coke and blast-furnace gases aimed for own steam production and energy suppression from Ukrainian electricity grid in the way of own electricity production at the plant.
