Project summary

The project envisages implementation of two CCGT blocks for energy production on the basis of waste gases, such as blast furnace gas (BFG), coke oven gas (COG) and converter gas. The total capacity of two blocks is equal to 303 mW.  The implementation of CCGT will lead to displacement of electricity consumption at Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works from the electricity grid, where electricity is generated, on the basis of fossil fuels.

 

Technical aspects of the project

Project activity includes the installation of:

  • CCGT power plant, consisting of two CCGT’s with capacity of 151,5 mW each (with efficiency around 44,6%);
  • fuel gas and air compressors;
  • utilization boilers;
  • steel gas pipeline;
  • gasholders;
  • subsidiary equipment.
The project became the first of a kind in Ukraine. Also, it is considered to be one of the largest JI projects which has significant demonstration effect on the plants of Ukraine. The project implementation leads to improvement of environment in the region, increase of payments to budgets of all levels, including the social needs, and creation of new working places, attracting local engineers and project contractors for project implementation.

Emission reductions of СО2

As a result of project implementation the GHG emission reductions are achieved due to reduction of fossil fuels consumption at the heat generating stations of Ukraine.
