Project summary

The project envisages the displacement of electricity production on the basis of fossil fuels in the electricity grid by an electricity generation project with introduction of Top Pressure Recovery Turbine (TRT) at PJSC “Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works”. TRT will use the excessive pressure of Blast Furnace Gas (BFG), which is generated as a result of pig iron production. Due to the power production at TRT, AISW will reduce its electricity consumption from the grid and therefore will reduce СО2.


Technical aspects of the project

Project activity includes the installation of:

  • TRT (capacity = 15,4 MW), equipped with air heater, electrical precipitator and dust separator.
The project will be the first of kind in Ukraine and will have a demonstrative effect. The proposed project is undoubtedly the best modern alternative at the market, because for today none of the steel plants in Ukraine has implemented the similar projects because of complexity of gas cleaning problem, comparatively significant financing and also not high electricity tariffs. The project implementation will reduce company's expenses on electricity purchase by way of its own production, and also attracts the additional assets from carbon credits selling.

Emission reductions of СО2

The GHGs emission reductions are achieved due to the technological waste gases utilization and the reduction of fossil fuels (natural gas and coal) consumption.
