Implementation of automatic control and accounting system for energy consumption at Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works

Project summary

The project presents a system of electronic tools used by PJSC “AISW” to monitor, control and optimize energy sources consumption and calculation. The system helps to decrease energy sources losses.

The main purpose of the system is to achieve energy efficiency through exact and reliable information concerning the quantities of received, produced, distributed and consumed energy resources types. 

Based on the existing practical   experience  with the system implementation at steel works, the expected reduction of energy resources consumption is about 12-14% due to the introduction of modern calculation facilities.



Technical aspects of the project

The project includes the implementation of automatic control and calculation systems of:

  • gaseous fuel (natural, blast furnace, coke oven, converter);
  • oxygen and suppressed air;
  • thermal energy;
  • water;
  • electricity.

The project of automatic control and calculation system includes the system for concrete energy resource calculations, data collection and transferring, linking canals with appropriate apparatus, means of information preservation, information adaptation and representation.

The project of automatic control and calculation system at steel mill is formed according to the hierarchic principal. The upper level is occupied by the automatic management system (АMS) of the enterprise in general, the next level is АMS shops, services and subdivisions of industrial complex, the lowest level is formed from АMS of the leading and subsidiary manufacture, including the local АMS aggregates and facilities.

The ASERCC implementation at PJSC “ASW” has to be realized in 3 phases:

  • Phase №1 – the development of project idea, implementation of calculation facilities;
  • Phase №2 – implementation of system for automatic acquisition and data treatment;
  • Phase №3 – introduction od a subsystem for data analysis and energy consumption management at the level of shops and districts of plant's administrative branch.

Project efficiency

The project aims to increase energy efficiency at PJSC “AISW” and reduce its irregular usages and slaughters.

Project socio-economic consequences

The project implementation will have a number of positive social and economic consequences for the mill in particular and the region in general, such as:

  • reduction of the production cost, increase of plant's competitiveness, stimulation of other plants to realize similar activities;
  • economic condition improvement in the region due to the increase of money deduction to the budgets of all levels, including the social needs and assistance to working conditions improvement;
  • renewal of the economic activity due to the attraction of native engineers, contractors for project implementation;
  • improvement of the general resource efficiency and also the improvement of plant's position in the market.
Similar projects have been initiated at PJSC “Dneprovsky Integrated Iron and Steel Works named after Dzershinsky”, PJSC “Yenakievo Iron and Steel Works”, PJSC “Azovstal Iron and Steel Works”,  “ISD DUNAFERR" Co. Ltd. (Hungary).
