Project summary

The project envisages the reduction of fossil fuel consumption due to the effective use of the secondary fuel and energy resources (SER) at the Steel Mill such as blast furnace, converter (LD) and coke oven gases by means of adding gasholders into the gas supply scheme. The introduction of gasholders for blast furnace, converter and coke oven gases leads to reduction of their non-technologic loss by 20% and secures their effective utilization.


Technical aspects of the project

The project consist of the three gasholders for different type of gases:

  • blast furnace gas (volume 100 000 m3;
  • converter gas (volume 80 000 m3;
  • coke iron gas (volume 50 000 m3.

The gas holder system project at PJSC “AISW” includes construction of gas pipelines and gasholders for blast furnace, converter and coke oven gases, booster-compressors of converter and coke oven gases, threeway valve of converter gas, automatic and control system.

The main purpose of gas supply system at PJSC “AISW” is to supply gases to combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT), that is built at Alchevsk Steel Mill.

The main task of the SPES gas holder system is to balance the operation of CCGT and to secure that it has a reliable supply of fuel secondary steel gases in necessary volumes and quality (set in characteristics).

In general the project envisages the interconnection of SER fuel resources, which are characterized with the generation instability connected with particularities of technological processes and consumers.

Project efficiency

The main aim of gasholder implementation into the gas supply system of the CCGT is stabilization at the gas time flow and its caloricity. It also provides protection against drastic change of parameters change (including explosive leaps). Gasholders use helps to achieve complex effect – effective utilization of SER and reduction of natural gas volume consumption.

Project socio-economic consequences

The project implementation will have a number of socio-economic consequences for the Mill and the region, such as:

  • reduction of the production cost increase of plant's competitiveness realization of similar projects at other steel enterprises;
  • economic condition improvements in the region due to the increase of money deduction to the budgets of all levels, including the social needs, preventing of the work places reduction and assistance to working conditions improvement;
  • renewal of the economic activity due to attraction of native engineers, contractors for the project implementation;
  • improvement of the general resource efficiency and also an improvement of PJSC “AISW” position in the market.
