Project summary

According to the developed and confirmed “Conception of sewage treatment and utilization at Bortnytska aeration station of Department of sewerage facility exploitation at OJSC “JSC Kyivvodokunul” the technical scheme of sludge utilization and treatment at Bortnyska aeration station in case of technical possibility includes: mechanic sludge dehydration from all 3 blocks of the station at сentripresses; burning of dehydrated sludge; utilization of the ashes, generated after burning with phosphoric fertilizers production.

Projected technological scheme has to include all necessary equipment and facilities. Possibilities of projecting and building facilities of sludge preparation to mechanical dehydration (mechanical thickers, grating and others) were planned to be observed apart.

Technical aspects of the project

The developed proposition concerning project modernization envisages increasing of energy efficiency due to the pyrolysis technology implementation, which leads to defects of mule sludge burning depriving, such as:

  • emissions of polychlorinated dioxin, polychlorinated dibenzofurans, CO and NOх together with wasted smoke gases: 
  • necessity of smoke gases cleaning, which is dependent on some ecological difficulties;
  • considerable expenses for burning preparation;
  • negative energy balance in comparison with pyrolysis technology.

Alternative decision concerning mule sludge treatment: pyrolysis with conversation into the fuel

  • waste-free production cycle;
  • receiving additional energy resources as gas synthesis and carbon residue, which can be burned instead of coal at TEGS;
  • possibility of investors attraction on the framework of Kyoto protocol on climate change;;
  • the most perspective utilization method of mule sludge;
  • improvement of local ecological situation;
  • implementation of the latest technological decisions.
